Our Story

TWO GROUPS  +  TWO INDIVIDUALS

This website reflects a commitment to interfaith relations and activities over ten years by four quite different entities.

1.       THE ASPLEY UNITING CHURCH

The Aspley Uniting Church in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia has provided the community base from which interfaith work has radiated into the northern part of the city.  In 2003 this Christian Congregation accepted interfaith relations as one of its stated mission goals.  As a result of this the church and its members have provided both human and physical resources to support an ever growing range of interfaith events.

2.       THE NORTH BRISBANE INTERFAITH GROUP

In 2008 representatives from The Aspley Uniting Church, local Anglican, Catholic and Muslim Communities, Queensland Forum for Christians, Jews and Muslims and Queensland Churches Together meet at the Aspley Uniting Church.  They agreed to form a NORTH BRISBANE INTERFAITH GROUP to continue and develop interfaith activities on this side of Brisbane.  The Aspley Church and its members continue to support this ongoing venture.  (Scroll down to see the NBIG AIMS and Credo)

3.       REV.(Rtd) GARTH READ

Garth Read was ordained as a Methodist Minister in 1962 and subsequently served as a Minister of the Uniting Church In Australia.  He has spent most of those 50 years in education both in Queensland and England.  His post graduate studies, lecturing in teacher education and the production and publication of curriculum materials all focused on multifaith religious education in primary and secondary schools in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

Since retirement in 1997 he has devoted a great deal of time and energy to furthering the interfaith movement in Queensland and beyond.  He is a member of the Aspley Uniting Church and Coordinator of The North Brisbane Interfaith Group.

4.       EVERALD COMPTON

Everald Compton is a successful Australian business man and a member of the Aspley Uniting Church and of the North Brisbane Interfaith Group.  This website has been made possible through the generosity of the Everald Compton Charitable Trust.
